Has anyone been able to get Time Machine (OS-X 10.5 Leopard) to work with their NASLite?

Apparently Time Machine will not work. I'm extremely disappointed at this point, I'm currently looking for a solution, Tony and I were discussing this yesterday.

Good note thou, NASLite with AFP automatically shows up in the finder window now, makes life a little easier.

doesnt time machine require an HFS+ disk to backup to? i currently use SuperDuper! http://tinyurl.com/6krpz to backup to a disk image on my NasLite server - SuperDuper automatically mounts the image and "smart updates" the netboot compatible image as long as my macbook is on the network (it is actually a pretty darn quick process with my 802.11n network - i can sustain about 7 MB/s)

from here
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/timemachine.html

"Pick a disk. Any disk.
You can designate just about any HFS+ formatted FireWire or USB drive "

Hi There! I am a MacBook Pro user planning to buy a licence (Lite or Nano I still don't know) and I am wondering if the Time Machine capability is still "frozen".....
Webbing around I understood that there are workarounds available (sparse images) because of the need for TM to target an HFS+ filesystem (and not only).... but I still hope for a cheaper solution wrt Time Capsule !!!

I'll try it when i get home from work. i recently installed Leopard on my MacBook, and still use SuperDuper! and a disk image on my NASLite server, but will throw in a spare disk, and try time machine. I'm going to presume the lack of HFS+ will still be an issue...

Time Machine will see NASLite shares now. You'll still need to enable your Leopard machine to see external drives however.

No go..

using this method:

http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/10/how- ... d-volumes/

and enabling network volumes via this terminal command:

defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1

i was able to see all my Windows shares and NASLite disks, and choose any of them as the Time Machine destination, but every time i would go to start the backup, Time Machine would fail as it was creating the *.sparsebundle file it uses for the backups...

My next attempt will be to start the backup on a local disk, then copy it over to a NASLite disk, and see if i can continue to add to an already created *.sparsebundle

We will see...
