Until about 2 hours ago I had my DSM-320 playing music from FreeNAS. It worked but I wanted a faster server for video, and the metadata for songs. I have NASLITE 2.0 installed and it works using windows drag and drop, copy paste, http, and ftp. The speed is faster with no other changes I went from 4.5 mb/s to 7.5 mb/s.
However my DSM320 does not see it as a server unless it can see the NAS it can not be used for the intended purpose. It does see my desktop pc and my laptop pc. FreeNas was using DHCP if that matters. Anyone have any suggestions?

My network adsl modem / router is a Netgear DG834G version 2.
The router does see the NAS and has its name in the attached devices list.
assigned IP addresses

192.168.0.1 - netgear router DHCP
192.168.0.1 - dsm320 gateway DHCP
192.168.0.1 - DNS DHCP
192.168.0.100 - nas fixed IP could not find a DHCP setting
192.168.0.3 - desktop pc DHCP
192.168.0.4 - laptop pc DHCP
192.168.0.5 - dsm320 IP DHCP

I went into network configuration and pinged 192.168.0.5 and I had good packets both ways with zero loss.
I also forgot to mention that the DSM320 is working VIA wireless.
SMB/CIFS is set to "RW"

Hi Christopher,

You are correct, NASLite does not support DHCP. Primary reason for this is the obvious, the IP to the server may change.

Right now it appears you have givin NASLite a static IP address in your DHCP pool of addresses, since the DHCP controls the handing out of those IP's I would suggest you give NASLite a IP address higher out of the DHCP range, such as 192.168.0.100

I did two things, I changed the IP of the NAS to 192.168.0.100. Then I moved the IP addresses range usable by DHCP down to 99 it was 264.

It did not help the original problem of the DSM320 not seeing the NAS.

What are your subnet masks set at? Both for your DHCP server and the NASLite box?

I think the DSM320 is strictly a UPnP device. If that's the case, then you have your answer. Unless I'm missing something, Naslite does not do UPnP.

This is from the product page, doesn't sound like it's UPnP only.

The DSM-320 can also access media stored on a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device2.

2. Certain features of this device may be unavailable when accessing stored media content on UPnP™ AV network attached storage devices.

I think they are both at 255.255.255.0

The UPnP could be it I had that turned on in the FreeNAs system, you mean this system does not support UPnP?

NASLite does not support UPnP.

UPnP is probably the reason your metatags are not showing up as well, it's probably just streaming the music and not sending them.

Also, try mapping the naslite server from your windows machine thats running the DSN320 sofware and see if the DSN320 sees it correctly like that.

The problem is that MY dsm-320 and dsm-520 do not see NASlite as a server I do not want to run two computers to play music or watch videos.

Yes, I get meta data using my desktop PC as the media server to the DSM-320 and DSM-520 media players.

This is a DSM-320 for the people who were asking.

This is the DSM-520
