Hello
tofin:
I am not an expert in this area ... but since you have no response so far, I'll try to help.
1] The log indicates this error occurred at lifetime of 3747 hours. First question that comes to mind is, what is the
current number of hours ? In other words, did this error that was placed in the log occur very recently or not ? I have had some disks with errors in the log that are very old and have not had troubles in many, many hours. As a matter of fact, on one disk I was unaware of any erros until I started using those older WinXP drives in my NASLite system and saw the SMART log. The HDD continued to work fine (but I don't trust critical data to it).
2] I do not know what "Error 8" is. A search on the manufacturer's site might help.
3] run a complete SMART test (in the Disk Configuration admin menu), but be prepared that it may take a very long time (hours) depending on the size of the disk.
4] give us some more info: HDD size, Mfg, Model, production date (you might have to pull the drive out to look at the label) ... this is optional if too much of a hassle. Is the drive running quiet ? What was it used for before ? Did you buy it new or refurbished ?
5] Remember this is a log of previous errors. A complete posting of the entire DiskLog might be helpful.
6] Are there any complaints in the SysLog ?
