I have a redundant Win2K computer which i would like to set up for file storage, what advantages does NASLite have over just using the machine as is and sharing the discs?

I am assuming NASLite will probably be better that Win2k for this use, but am unclear in what way.

Please help.....

Cheers

Bob

Can no one help here?

I have emailed Server Elements and had no response, I have asked here and had no response :-(

If I decide to go with NASLite and need support this does no bode well.

Bob (in hope)

NASLite-2 is a well featured NAS solution which will run on a *very* low spec machine. It does not support user administration - everyone has access to everything. It is however very stable and performs very well. It will support *hardware* RAID controllers only - not driver assisted motherboard / PCI controllers.

Basically, it will probably be quicker than Win2K as it has virtually no O/S overheads. And it's still in development - new features crop up occasionally.

Hi Nick

How do I find out if my M/B will boot from a USB memory stick?

Cheers

I would suggest you find and download the HP USB tool - (SP27213.exe) and make an existing USB stick bootable. If this boots in your machine, it's a step for a hint that it will boot NASLite-2 USB. You will require to go through your BIOS settings and find the boot order - put USB first (with the stick plugged in). If you unplug the stick and reboot you will probably have to go into BIOS and sort out the boot order again.

Have fun!

OK, the machine would appear to be bootable from the memory stick, so the USB version of NASLite would seem to be the way to go.

Cheers
