I've had about 6 weeks using NASLite and now the unlock code is suddenly showing as

UNLOCK* INVALID Operating System Unlock Status.

It was working fine, I have checked it against my original email and it is still the same..... I have ver 2.03 and have downloaded 2.04 but not installed.

I can't access any files on the server from my PC but I can ping it and also http in and see all the admin stuff.

Sounds like you've changed some hardware and require to unlock the installation. New mobo / cpu?

Thanks, Oh wow that sucks, I changed the network card, I can swap it back and see. If that is the case what should I do for a change in hardware??

Hi Poison,

You can change as much as you like in your server... all you have to remember is that you can only have one server running the license key you purchased... you can get a new unlock code when you see fit.

So don't worry about changing network cards, adding drives, etc.

it can be a pain when you are testing cards as you have to perform the unlock and reboot each time, but it does protect the software somewhat from ending up on torrents (piracy)etc. or people selling servers with the software loaded and the end user not being able to upgrade their version because it was pirated.

Hello Poison:

Yes, you probably should just go and "practice" for a new unlock code.

Note to everyone though ... and this does not have anything to do with why some members report running out of remaining download counts so quickly (they are not related to unlock codes), but I am wondering if something similar happens ... ... while testing and trying to debug an unusual mystery with the MIRROR function in v2.03 and v2.04, trying out different hardware combinations, I had to get several unlock codes. I blindly entered the "new" unlock code offered, and it would not work. I then realized that Internet Explorer (on the WinXP client) and/or my internet gateway was caching browser pages, and the System ID (fom the NASLite server) being supplied to get the unlock code had not updated (despite the reboot on the NAS server). Make sure you do a FORCED Refresh (in Internet Explorer Ctrl-F5).

:) Georg

Or better yet, replace IE with Firefox:
