Thank you Server Elements for the offer of an update to NASLite-2 CDD & USB v2.04 but unfortunately as an EARLY ADOPTER of your software, I am being penalised as my download window of time has expired.
Great, why email me and offer it? mont

Taken a look and this still does not answer my question!

As I stated, as an EARLY ADOPTER of your software, I am being penalised.
You have released a maintainance upgrade for your product, which I can not have because I was one of the first purchasers.
So much for looking out for your customers.

If this product is an ongoing devevlopment (i.e WITH BUGS), this upgrade should surely be free to the purchasing customer. I do not see why I should have to pay.

Unimpressed :( Mont

WTF does EARLY ADOPTER has anything to do with the purchase terms you agreed to when you bought Mont? Maybe Server Elements should give you their first born too.

Dimension: Not being up on 'text speak', I take it WTF stands for What The ****, how elegant your reply was and really usefull for a discussion forum.
I will try and explain early adopter as your grasp of the english language is clearly limited!
Early adopter: I bought the software within a few days of its release and clearly before all the bugs had been sorted out in the new maintainance release, get it!

I take it from your over protective reply you either work for Server Elements or you are related!

You are missing the point dude. You had 180 days to come up to speed. I assume you have v2.03. If not, why not? You obviously get release emails as the rest of us "EARLY ADOPTERS". You had the benefit of running Naslite before others did. Did it do the job for you or did you not use it because of bugs? It's a tool. If you can apply it successfully, then it's worth the investment. I guess that my "text speak" prevented my point from getting across. I recon this speak does a better job. :P

I've bought enough copies of Naslite that I might as well work for Server Elements. And yeah, I've become protective of my investment in those guys. They offer me a good tool. :D

You know, I actually agree with mont_se.

I have been Server Element customer since version 1.5, which I upgraded to the USB 2 version the day it came out (thanks for the discount).

I upgraded to every 2.0X version, everytime it came out. For some reason, the 2.03 version was the most unstable for my box - it won't show the status after 3+ days on and I have to restarted it everytime (even though it works fine, but I just like to see all the status).

So the 2.04 came out last week and I am excited, so I tried to d/l and find out my link expired.

I ended up pay for extra license (which I really don;t need) for the 2.04.

Tony & Ralph: I can and really do understand the 180days expiration rules, but imagine if MS request us to buy a new OS license everytime we need to updates or install SP after 180 days of activation/purchase/installation - what kind of chaos this world will be :-)

You did share the same rules with MS - requestion unlock for each serial number after instalation (even though they used the term "activation"), why don't you also "share" the same thought that customers get free maintenance update/upgrade - whatever you want to call it, as long as it's the same version.

Just a thought guys.. and peace.....

Huh? Considering that 2.04 was released something like 190 after 2.0. How can a user "come up to speed" if the release is after expiration of the download?

FYI, I have been a licensed user since 1.4 :)

Good point pszilard

Dimension also quotes:I've bought enough copies of Naslite that I might as well work for Server Elements. With the quantities he is buying he obviously has a constant valid 180 day limit!

Naslite 2 looks like it is becoming a victim of it's own success, with the ever increasing customer base, daily shrinking customer download limit and Server Elements still releasing udpates some 6 months after release.

Maybe prospective buyers should take a look at this forum before making a purchase. Might make them hold back until a final release is available or choose an alternative with a better update option.

A product being updated is a bad thing Mont? If it was bug fixes, then yeah but that is not the case here. SE is adding features to the product, if you were not happy with the initial features why did you buy it in the first place? I think the update policy need a re-work and in my opinion a higher price with free updates and downloads (like any other product) is the way to go.

Ditto on the superboss post above. Are people buying Naslite so they can update it or so they can use it? It's a product that does it's job as advertised at time of purchase.

Now that would be childish and pointless in my opinion, but what do I know. All i need is a dependable NAS now. :)

Hey, I resemble that remark  I specifically held off on buying because I saw on these forums that the new version (2.03 in this case) was due out soon. I wasn't in a particular hurry and preferred to start with the newest rather than having to upgrade.

Funny stuff

You should wait till next year. I bet v2.09 will be phenomenal. Better yet, wait till 2012 when v5 is out. Now that would be better than anything we’ve seen before from SE.

We are talking about a low cost tool that you can apply when you have the need. We are not discussing a lifetime investment here. I bet you don’t crawl up Symantec’s butt for charging you yearly virus definition subscriptions. You are all used to that thanks to the gods at MS. Why then are you all making such a big deal about a piece of software that costs little and does the job it’s intended for right out of the box.

For 30 bucks you get a NAS OS that WORKS. You buy functionality. I do not expect SE to kiss my butt for the $30 I paid in exchange for a tool that works. They have honored their commitment to me by making sure upfront that the tool will do the job as advertised. Anything I can get from them above that is gravy.
