To the best of my understanding these adaptec 6-port sata cards have been made specifically for dell poweredge series servers. Mine, is a direct pull from a dell server as per ebay listing that I purchased from.

I wonder if we should make a post for all the people that have these cards and make them check the BIOS and Manuf. ID/Name of their card to come up with consensus on which cards work and which do not.

I have a stupid questions, have you tried this card with NASLite 2 in a different motherboard, just for kicks?

Vadim

PS in my bios card setting I have write cache disabled (set to off/false) and everything else set to "on/true" enabled.

To the best of my knowledge Adaptec does not retail a 2610SA - essentially a 6 port version of the 2410SA/2810SA21610SA family - they do however oem it to Dell (Cerc SATA6) IBM (ServeRAID7t) and I believe HP & possibly Gateway - I believe the BIOSes may be customized to suit the oem vendor as may be the PCI id.

Was this intentional and if so what was the reasoning?

Cheers

Tried to flash the 2610SA with the DELL BIOS since mine has the HP BIOS but no luck. The flash utility recognized that it is an incorrect BIOS for the card and refuses. I hate giving up but may have to. If you buy one of these cards make sure it is the DELL oem.
Some searching revealed other using the HP 2610SA and aacraid 115 driver. Tony or Ralph, is this the version used in NASLite?

I believe it is a good idea to disable write cache if the power conditions are unpredictable. The card might not have finished moving data from the cache to the media drives in case of power failure while it may appear that it has. Less headaches for me, or maybe I should just pick up another UPS.

What version of aacraid does NASLite use? I noticed some versions such as 115 list a greater variety of supported 2610SA cards.

We need to look closer at this but I think that the DELL and Adaptec cards carry different PCI IDs. Since the driver recognizes and works with the DELL, it stands to reason that it should also work with the Adaptec. It may be a case of simply adding the associated PCI ID for proper support.

We’ll have to take a closer look and see if there are differences between the two cards. At this point I’d assume that to be the case until we take a closer look.

Any more info on this? I really would like to use this card. Is the aacraid driver going to be updated in future releases of NASLite?
