I have a few questions about NASLite+. I know this is the board for NASLite2, but I figured I'd be better of getting answers here because nobody really checks the other one.
Anyway, here goes:
1. I don't have a UPS system or anything like that. All I have is a surge protector. Is this good enough, or should I invest in a UPS system? What I mean is, if my power goes out, and the server turns off, will my hard drives crash? I'm not a wealthy person, and if my hard drives are going to crash, then I'll definitely invest in a UPS system. However, my desktop is just hooked up to a surge protector, and I don't really worry about power outages. My computer just turns off, and occasionally, when I boot back up, it will tell me that it wasn't shut down properly.
2. If I ever want to take the hard drives out of the NAS box and put them into a USB enclosure, can I do that without reformatting? I don't want to lose the files on the drives after they've been installed in the NAS box.
3. My whole reason for creating a NAS box is so that I can share large amounts of information on my network at school, over a DC++ hub. I have a hard drive in the NAS box right now, and another hard drive in a USB enclosure. I need both of the hard drives, but I would rather not have another USB enclosure, as it takes up space on my desktop, and it takes up a USB port that I need for other things. So, if I network the NAS box and my laptop together, and then run DC++ on my laptop, using the NAS box as the location where the files are saved, will I experience any problems?
Thanks a lot in advance for answering my questions.
