I received an email late yesterday morning from a customer who had purchased Naslite-2 CDD, downloaded, installed and unlocked the software and only then requested a refund as Naslite-2 does not support software raid. His claim is that the website and documentation are not clear and by not explicitly stating that Naslite-2 *does not* support software raid, this some how implies that it does. Do we need to list the numerous hardware and features that we do *not* support?

As Mr. Hurley made this matter public by posting this on his blog, I thought it would be only fair that I toss this out for the community's review. Tony and I disagree with his point that the web site, manual, and hardware reference imply software raid support and frankly we are baffled as to how he inferred that it did support it.

Comments?

No response...Sorry to hear that Ralph.

I wrote a short experience of your product and conversations with you.

Please add a note on your website about not offering software RAID for future customers.

There have been a few others that were interested in my results after the holiday vacation. I will them to make sure they pick up RAID cards with their hard drive purchases if they choose to go this route. I was sort of the guinea pig on finding any easy to setup and maintain RAID solution for the home. :-)

Enjoy your Happy New year!

Mark

Personaly I wouldnt write a blog about a mistake I made, and argue the toss over it.

The Naslite-2 CDD page states Dependable hardware RAID support so software RAID support is a pretty lame assumption. If I had such particular needs, I'll be sure to ask and do my research prior to purchase. Especially after reading the small print that no refund on download sales.

I hope Hurley asked Ralph for permission before posting his mails on the blog. Underhanded and spiteful for sure.

I think the docs are clear. If you have further questions and are worried about your $29, then ask the forum. Otherwise shut up and assume responsibility for your choice.

Happy New Year everyone 8)

Looks like he didn't research thoroughly enough. I would say sorry but it clearly states HARDWARE support.

NASLite-2 utilizes RAID via a number of supported
SCSI and SATA hardware RAID devices.

Assuming that the website has not been changed recently I see nothing to imply software RAID is supported - every reference to RAID says "hardware RAID".

This guy is just not willing to admit that he made an assumption, that could have been avoided had he done, as they say in legal circles, the due diligence, and taken a look at the available documentation.

I just read that guys blog, I guess he expects serverelements to set up and configure his naslite box since he doesn't seem to think he needs to read the manual.

It was my error and confusion to make any assumptions as a new customer. But lets face it, new customers do this every day with products they intend to buy. Asking someone to read a 26 page manual for a $30 product is not what I would call good customer service.

Heh,

You know it's funny that he's complaining about small business, yet he expects to be treated as if he's buying from costco. With attitudes like that it's no wonder why so many small companies are failing. You are damned if you do, and you are damned if you don't. I think server elements should stick to their guns and stay in business, putting out their cool stuff so people like me can look like studs walking out of a client's office 15 minutes after walking in.
