I bought an...

SY-VIA-150R PCI SATA /IDE

for hardware RAID with IDE and Sata. I am trying to use 2x320GB Perp Storage Seagates and (for now) one Western Dig 400 SATA. I will be moving to add a 2nd WD 400GB drive in the near future.

Thing is, I set up the JBOD RAID in the BIOS, but when I goto option3 storage, there is only my SATA 400 avaialable. The 2 320s are no where to be seen. reboot, nothing still.

The card may not be supported.

The RAID might not work though. It will just work as a controler card for the drives.

That VIA controller provides driver assisted RAID and therefore will function as a SATA interface only. RAID function is not supported by NASlite-2 on that board and that's why it's listed under SATA and not under RAID.

Is there a supported RAID combo IDE/SATA controller that will work? If that is the case there should be some indicator that the card has only SATA support, as it is very deceiving looking at the Hardware reference. I purchased NASLite2 because it showed the card as supported, where as FreeNAS did not, however the results in reality ar ethe same with both systems. The big advantage to FreeNAS, aside from being free, is that it installs on a hard drive, where NASLite2 as of this time does not.

It's listed as supported under the "SATA controller devices" not "Hardware raid controller devices", two different sections.
