The performance is good compared to what I need it to do. Using diskwriggler, I'm getting 9.67 MB/s using a 100MB link. I suspect this would go faster if my motherboard I purchased would have had PCI-E -- the raid 5 card I purchase is a PCI-E card, but it is backwards compatible with normal PCI.
I used to use a LInksys EFG-80 NAS, and I just tested diskwriggler with it and was getting only 6.27 MB/s.
Overall, I'm VERY pleased.
I think you're just a wee bit confused - if you purchased a PCI-E RAID card, it would not work with a motherboard that did not support PCI-E.
PCI-X is generally backward compatible with PCI
PCI-E or PCI Express is a completely different
serial technology which uses different, incompatible connectors.
