Very simple:

Convince me on why I should buy NASLite. Or V2?

Knock me out.

I have spent the last 6 hours looking through this site. Now I need to hear what people and the creators say.

It's rather simple, it simply works.

I have been using the product since V1.0 and never has it crashed or lost my data. Setup has been easy and straight forward as long as you RTFM. The unlock is a bit of a pain the first time but it is the only complaint I can even think of and that is really minor! the hardware support is rather good bordering on great for such a small footprint and the guys do a really good job of sticking to the basic concept of the product. NAS with no frills except that which is REALLY needed to make it a usable and reliable OS/Appliance.

If you don't buy NASLite V2.0x that you are a moron! I mean it because unless you need user access control or some other fancy crap then this is TRULY the very best appliance you will find for any money this side of several hundred dollars.

 Yeah, I tried that approach too: http://www.serverelements.com/phpBB2/vi ... php?t=1145

My advice to you is that if you value your time, then NASLite-2 is the way to go. It runs well, it has no problems I’m aware of, it’s stable, it’s easy to use, it’s compact and to-the-pint, it runs on old as well as new hardware, it’s self contained, etc. I can go on but hopefully you get the point.

Another thing, you will not go broke trying it, so I wouldn’t make a big deal about it. Just get it, try it and then decide if you are going to use it or not.

I agree with mikeiver1,

The OS is stable, I have been using Naslite for over a year and a half and the only problems I have had are due to pilot error.

If you want a nice clean OS without the usual BLOAT and it will provide you with the options you require then its a good purchase.

Not all the best things are FREE (DIG) and the purchase price is I am sure within most peoples budget and if you safeguard your data then its well worth the price. What with the new options coming out in the next build i am sure you will find a suitable backup option for your data.

Read the manuals carefully and the hardware pdfs as well and make sure your hardware is suitable,

What handy scripts have you accumulated over time in use with NASLite/ V2?

What programs have you found that are a must (at least recommended) for NASlite/V2?

Specifically have any of you used IPCop (or similar firewall) to do something nifty with your NASLite box(s)?

Do you prefer the CD version or the USB version? I am somewhat of a hater of floppies. How have you got around this "floppy" issue without having a USB stick sticking out?

Any words on a later build? Anything that can sounds nifty?

Lastly what do you think of the NASlite GUI?

You can run no other apps at all on the NASLite box, it is more of an appliance than an OS per say. There is no command line access or root account.

The GUI is rather nice and works very well. It provides much needed information on the appliances status as well as a Telnet terminal link to configure and manage the unit.

I prefer the USB version, Which means one extra HD over the CD version, and I have mine of a Compact Flash card in a Card Reader so nothing is sticking out the back of the box, If you are using the USB version you will only need to use a floppy disk if the machine does not boot from the USB this floppy is called a Kcker. other then that the USB version saves its config to the usb itself.

The CD version requires you to have a floppy to save the config to.
There are floppy versions of Naslite these are FREE but due to the size of the floppies there are a number of flavours and there is a file size limit of 4gb and these are slower then the usb and cd versions.

You have a Telnet screen that you admin the nas and you also have a html status setup where you can view the status of the nas.

its been said before but i will say it again.

Pre NASLite i tried everything over a period of a few years. The amount of time i wasted patching, bug fixing, tweaking, enhancing and housekeeping other OS's etc was ridiculous.

If you value your time at all Naslite is the way forward.

Honestly turn it on, register it, set it up... and then it runs for as long as your kit has power and doesnt break.
