That is the best way unless you're willing to temporarily remove the NASLite drive and place it in one of the Windows machines. Your network speed is probably the limitation on how fast you can copy.

If you put the NASLite disk in a Windows machine and ran software that understood how to access the Linux partition, such as Linux! you could do a copy without using the network.

ftp is usually faster to move large amounts of data than windows explorer. Not good for day-to-day use but i will often ftp the NAS machine to load it up with data.

If large amounts of data need to be transfered. I have found Filezilla to be a great program. The client version can be loaded on to the Windows XP machine, then the NasLite box act as the server. This is a free utility and available on

http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/

If you need to transfer between 2 Windows PC's then you can use the Filezilla server on one and Filezilla client on the other.

This is much more efficient, than copy and paste in the windows environment.

I haven't used any of the RSync options but that seems to be the way to go for incremental backups. First time everything then the updated files. There are other posts in this forum dealing with this.

I hope that this helps.

Why would one want to use XP as a NAS box when there is NASLite?

Use the FTP client FileZilla to connect to the FTP server built into NASlite.
The NL FTP service should be RW unless you changed it.

plug in the IP and connect anonymously.

Please post how much faster this is for you.

For the fastest results you need a multithreaded copying tool like Secure Copy. My task of transfering over 30,000 files was done in less then an hour.
