I came home today to my little NASLITE2 box beeping 3 times (all the same tone) every so often. Checking the Storage Status page I see that the only disk "available" is the System disk and it is 7.7M used of 7.7M total.

The other 4 disks all appear to be accessible from the network but their pages don't show up in the status area.

The status log is filled with the following:

# Sep 8 12:15:02 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
# Sep 8 12:16:02 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
# Sep 8 12:16:02 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
# Sep 8 12:17:02 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
# Sep 8 12:17:02 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
# Sep 8 12:18:02 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
# Sep 8 12:18:02 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }
# Sep 8 12:19:01 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
# Sep 8 12:19:01 user.warn kernel: hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 { DriveStatusError }

I'm assuming the system disk filled with these error messages.

Can anyone provide any guidance on what the issue is? I did check all 4 disks and they appear to be online.

Thanks.

Looking at the times, the errors are logged every minute, so I'd assume the drive doesn't like the SMART probe. Turn SMART off on hda and run it for a while. The errors should not reappear (provided I'm right).

What version of NASLite-2 are you using? We tweaked v2.02 SMART a bit, but that's no guarantee that all drives will respond properly.

Anyway, I think that's the problem.

Thanks Tony, The disk in question is a Samsung 300GB disk (first Samsung I've used) and is brand new.

I've shut off the SMART check for that disk, but I still have the issue of the full system disk and the beeping. How can I clear that up?

The version I'm using is v2.02 09-2006

Thanks for all your help.

Are you sure you saved the settings and rebooted the machine for changes to take effect?

That did it. I wasn't able to save the config due to lack of space but when I rebooted, the system disk came back at 3.8M used out of 7.7M. It appeared that the SMART "off" setting stuck anyway, but I saved and rebooted one more time and calm returned to the land.

Thanks.

Ray.
