I just tested adding another IDE drive to the Promise FT100 controller on a Tyan S2515.

It does in fact work, however, I did initially have problems seeing drives and had to change ide cables.

All my drives mounted and are seen now.

** NOTE ** I only have 2 IDE drives, one on the secondary channel and one on the FT100 controller, this may or maynot work with 8 drives. I do not have 6 more spare drives to test this.

Ralph,

Both the ABIT boards (VP6 and KT7A) uses the HPT370 RAID controller. Could it be that there is a problem with this controler since the Promise FT100 is working?

Hm,

Looking at the kernel message again:

Code:
Jul 11 21:26:17 user.info kernel: ide0: BM-DMA at 0xa000-0xa007, BIOS settings: hda:pio, hdb:pio
Jul 11 21:26:17 user.info kernel: ide1: BM-DMA at 0xa008-0xa00f, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio

Jul 11 21:26:17 user.info kernel: ide2: BM-DMA at 0xc000-0xc007, BIOS settings: hde:DMA, hdf:pio
Jul 11 21:26:17 user.info kernel: ide3: BM-DMA at 0xc008-0xc00f, BIOS settings: hdg:pio, hdh:pio

There seems to be a shared IRQ problem. If it is, there is no way for NASLiite to effectively access the disks. We're going to take a closser look at it.

Here is my log. The hde: Maxtor 91728D8, ATA DISK drive is the one not mounting.

OK, Can you see that disk in the admin menu? Probably Disk-5 with Disk-6 as your USB boot device from what i can tell...

Tony,

In all the menus on the Server it shows up as Disk-4. Disk-5 is the USB boot device. The disks carried over from V1.5 is Disk-0/1/2/3 on the standard IDE channels, and I have no problem accessing them.

Hermie.

When I used my spare HD's they where seen by naslite i could perform fomat, disk check the drive was listed in the storage menu but status remained unmounted even though it said after a reboot it will be available.
this was tested with two HD's the hd's with the data 3 of them i should have just been able to slot in and mount but these where the same, these i was more careful with and kept away from the format options.

in the bios i had everything off. all the irq's com etc. even moving the network card around and booting without the gfx card.

its a shame i was nealry there. and if i could have done it, i would have had 4 ide channels and space for 16 lol hd's

i was enjoying trying to get it to work until i gave up and my HDs would not mount at all. Thankfully i pulled the disks put them in a thrid pc boot knoppix and ran the same program naslite has e2fck and that allowed me to fix the drive. if i tried this in naslite i was told the disk is unmounted.

In the admin menu, take a look at the drives config. Go to "Storage Configuration- Option 3), then pick the drive by number. In the Disk-# configuration menu, make sure the "Export Disk-# - Option 1) is set to RW and not to --.

Save settings on exit and reboot.

that was one of the first things i done, even made another naslite usb incase there was something wrong with the saved config. trust me i tried all manner of settings, smart on smart off RW, RO I am not one to give up easy and i like a challange, and i looked for all the obvious stuff jumpers cables. if nas couldnt see the hd then i would have looked elsewhere but it could. I finally given up now and learnt a lesson if it aint broke dont fix it. LOL But i will be back. when i got time i will load knoppix of something and see if it sees the drives.

Plus Herkaun is using the same High Point HPT370 IDE Controller, going by the posted compatibilty info its listed as working hence the reason i tried.

I am back after my short trip out of town.

I added an UltraATA 133 PCI card (SIIG, Inc. bought at CompUSA 2 years ago), and plugged the drive into it. Started, format the drive, set all the options, save the config and rebooted. Drive mounted correctly and I had no other problems with it.

I powered down, and moved the drive to the onboard HighPoint IDE Raid controler, and the problems started again. The drive did not mount. It seems to me that there is a problem with how the High Point HPT370 IDE controles is handled.

Any suggestions Tony/Ralph?

Any news on this issue?

I believe this is related to the Highpoint HPT370 controler.

I started trying to migrate from my P166(!) to a Duron 800 KT7A-Raid board hoping to use the onboard raid controller to add some drives.

I'm having the same problem - put a disk that worked on the old box on the HPT contorler and it is recognized but will not mount. running fsck from admin menu reports errors.

* Anyone figure out how to get this to work?
* Might changing the Mode in the HPT menu help (maybe a PIO mode...?
* Is there any plan to add this in a future update?

Thanks,

Dan

I got mine to run fine in the end, When V2 first come out it was quite sensitive when you added new hardware so what I didntt realise was the unlock became enabled and hence the drives would not mount.

Things to take a look at are the unlock feature, and you have the Drives set as RW in the storage section.

This drive was working just fine on old V2 system.

When I run File system check from the admin utility I get:
"Group descriptors look bad... trying backup blocks..."

Then a bunch of lines like this:
"Free blocks count wrong for group #XXX (32254, counted=0).
Fix? no"

and ultimately:
"*** Warning: Filesystem still has errors ***"

So, controller issue or drive issue? I guess I'll through in a couple of small old drives and see what happens.

Thanks,
Dan

OK, guess it was the drive.

Put another drive w/ ext3 fs in, and NASlite saw it and mounted it right off.

Put the drive back in and still would not mount. fsck'd it 2 times through the NASlite util panel, but still would not mount. Reformatted drive using NASlite and now it mounts and seems to be working OK.

Thanks for the help.
