I expect I already know what your answer will be

But following a note in a previous thread regarding SMB file sizes how far away are we from Vers 2 :?:

Are you able to offer any news regarding the improvements, maybe a list of some of the changes you have made that are working :?:

Just thought I'd ask

Ralph and I had a long discussion couple of weeks ago regarding the possibility of porting some of the improvements scheduled for v2 back into v1 in order to resolve the 4G SMB issue. The decision was made in favor of porting the essentials provided the low-end system requirements don’t change. In the next month or so, we should be able to release v1.3 with 4G+ SMB support, utilizing the 2.2.12 branch of the samba project. Some additional improvements to NFS, FTP and HTTP were made to further reduce memory requirements. To make things even more interesting, the v1.x root will remain at 4G. From a development standpoint, this is an achievement for us, so we are pretty happy with the upcoming release.

I look forward to it being released.

I am always impressed as to how quickly you respond and how honest you try to be. A real credit.

Thanks again

That's great news :!:

Now if I may be so bold as to inquire if ext3 support will also be part of v1.3 :P ? Also, how far back development wise, did this put you in relation to getting the actual v2.X out the door with all of the anticipated bells and whistles?

The only capability change in v1.3 is the elimination of the SMB file size restrictions. Everything else remains the same as v1.2.

Well I am very pleased that the 4GB limit is going to be lifted. I deal with a lot of files over this limit, so thanks to Tony and Ralph for listening to its customers. well done.
