NASLite Network Attached Storage

Hi,

I have a NAS that has been running for several years. Last night I was getting write errors and the log was full of i-node errors. On reboot the system attempted the "Checking Storage Filesystem (Disk-0)" and it failed!

Is there any place I go from here or is this the end of the line?

The RAID card is not reporting any failed drives.

How much RAM do you have in the machine - I think that I remember experiencing a failed disk-check that was subsequently completed satisfactorily after adding more RAM to the server.

2 GB. hmm, would that be dependent on the size of the disk or the amount of data? It's been running with the same size RAID but it's getting full now.

I think that it is dependent on disk size and number of errors - not too sure though, Tony or Ralph would have a better idea.

This may have been covered before - have you tried the search function?

Also, which version of NASLite are you running? It may be that an upgrade to the latest version would be of some benefit.

yes, did a search and got a million responses since every other post has a log dump in that has all the same words. It didn't seem like the search wanted to accept phrasing.

You could try rebooting the box from a live CD and then running FSCK from the command line. This might fix the issue and allow you to reboot and access the array again.

How old are the drives? What type are they?

they are seagates, 500GB, 4 of them. they are 3 or 4 years old.

Where do I get a live CD image to boot from?

search for any linux distro - ubuntu or mint are just 2 - download - burn to cd and boot from that and run the command

You mentioned a RAID card. What type of array ?

raid5. The megaraid Dell cards from a few years ago, I think.

When I asked you for the drive info, you need to tell me the make and model. Telling me that they are all Seagate and 500GB is like saying that you drive a Ford and it has a 13 gallon gas tank.

Now if it is a Dell RAID card it is likely an LSI card.

Well I went to the RAID config to get you the drive model numbers and one of the drives had failed, somewhat. It had it listed as "not responding" but still there. I have replaced the drive and the RAID set is rebuilding, appears that it should be done in a quick 12 hours.

If one is failed then the others are likely going to start to fail in the near future. I would be looking to migrate to a new set of drives and array.
