I don't think that this is the way to do it.... I have never done it this way for the 3 RAID5 that I am using on my present server. A previous incarnation had 3 x 300GB + 3 x 250GB in a 1250GB RAID5 (with another 100GB RAID5 created from the spare 50GB chunks of the 300GB disks) on an Adaptec 2610SA card.

1: Initialise each drive in the RAID card BIOS;
2: Create an array in the RAID card BIOS;
3: Build the array in the RAID card BIOS;
4: Boot into NASLite;
5: Format drive corresponding to RAID array (journal as required);
6: Export drive corresponding to RAID array;
7: Reboot NASLite.

OK guys, it didn't work....

I formatted every single drive, exported the drives, rebooted, created one large RAID 0 array (about 5.6 Tb), rebooted and loaded NASLite.

Disgust, despair, disbelieve: no logical disk recognized.....

That was - of course - my first approach! The first syslog belongs to THAT handling of arrays.

The second syslog belongs to the second method (first format as single drives in NL, then glue them together using BIOS controller)

Though I like wine the girlfriend and I tend to be more beer drinkers. Paulaner Salvator double Bock being the beer of choice.

Keep us posted on the build, try reducing the stripe size to 4K and see if that fixes the problem with the OS not formatting successfully.

Hurray!

The new ISO did it. I downloaded v2.61b12-2009, updated the installed version - that went very smooth, created my desired RAID 6 array with 6 drives (that took about 4/5 hours) and NL is formatting the logical drive seemingly without hiccups.

Thanks for all the support, guys.

UPDATE: NL is - after formatting the drive in 4096 sized clusters - exporting the 3.6 TB drive as 1.6 TB drive. That does not seem right, does it?
