I am trying to install NASLite 2 on a 4 Hard Drive system.
I install on drive 0 but when I reboot and nas loades it insist it is on drive 3
When I go to drive config menu I see drives 0, 1 & 2
drive 0 shows it is already formated and ready to go
drive 3 does not show up in config menu
If I format drive 0 I lose my Nas install

What is going on here

I have drive 0 set to auto in bios and none on all other drives

NL assigns drive based on the the order in which the controllers are detected by the OS. Your "Boot" drive is at other than the first controller, primary channel, Master. This is assuming that you are running PATA. A bit more detail is needed about your hardware for more clarity.

As far as the boot drive not being shared. NL, when you build a boot partition on a drive, uses only a very small partition, I think less than 32MB. From this it boots and creates a RAM disk from which to run. There are no further reads from the drive after boot. You will need to use the configuration menu and format the remaining space on the drive as you would any other in preparation to share it.

I have removed 2 hard drives, I only have two seagate st340014a's and a CD-rom drive in system now.
seagates are set to master and slave
boot from naslite cd and install to disk-0
reboot from hd and naslite says it has booted from disk-1
in storage config menu I can access drive-0 but not drive-1
drive-1 has an * instead of a 1
if I format drive-0 system no longer boots

have tried a single drive and when I add another drive boot drive becomes drive-1 agian?

??????????????????????????????

have you installed the Naslite software on more than one drive - if you have then even if you delete it the drive order does funny things as something is left behind - you need to unconfigure any drives that the software was installed on to clean everything off

not near a system i can look at but its an option on the HD version of the install
