Hi,

I have purchased the USB version of the software, built the bootable USB Key on another machine than the one I intend to use as it has a SATA CD/DVD Drive. the USB Key boots the software and this is what I get on the screen, before it reaches the login prompt :

Code:
Checking Resource -------------------------------> [DONE]
Detecting Configuration Device (Disk 3) ---------> [DONE]
Retrieving Configuration Settings ---------------> [FAIL]
Verifying Licence ID ----------------------------> [FAIL]
Setting Default Administration Mode (admin/nas) -> [DONE]

NasLite-2 Login :

The system I have is the following

HP ML 115 G5
AMD Opteron™ 1214 Dual Core Processor 2.20 GHz
512 MB RAM
4 x 500GB Seagte Baracudda ST3500320AS 500GB Hard Drive SATA II 7200rpm 32MB Cache
On Board RAID Controller (nVidia NFP3400 chipset)
ACPI V2.0 Compliant; PCI 2.3 Compliant; PXE Support; WOL Support; IPMI 2.0 compliance

If you require any more information that may help please do let me know

You need to:

Login;
Enter your license information;
Save configuration;
Reboot;
Access your NAS via the http interface from a client machine and unlock NASLite;
Save configuration;
Reboot.

btw: You will not be able to configure your HDDs as a RAID as the RAID on your motherboard is driver assisted RAID and not true hardware RAID. There are 2nd hand SATA RAID controllers available at reasonable prices from the premiere auction site.

The problem is that when the login prompt is presented, I am unable to type anything using the keyboard, it seems like the system is hanging. Is there any way I can get some verbose logging?

Or a USB-to-PS/2 converter plug ... with your existing USB KBD.

To eliminate the possibility of KBD or other hardware issue: On your NL system try booting a Linux Live-CD (Ubuntu, Knoppix, etc). I have a Dell with only SATA DVD-Rom (no IDE ports) and using USB KBD and mouse, and Ubuntu 7.10 works well.

To eliminate the possibility of a system hang, use the usb pen on another PC set the IP and license code save config and power off the pc. boot the server with the usb pen power up the client pc and telnet over the the Nas server. if you can type, the server has not crashed you could then configure the rest of the options.

Remember you don't actually need a keyboard plugged in or a monitor. although its handy if something goes wrong.

anyway something else for you to try,

Eden

I have been able to boot with many Live CD's including FreeBSD v7.0. Also I am able to boot with FreeNas. I have now bought myself an Adaptec 2610SA Sata RAID Controller Card. I will now try the option of configuring the USB Pen on another machine and setting the IP / Configuring the licence. I will let you know the outcome.

DJKR,

Remember to see the shares you will need to unlock the server as well. this can be done by entering the server ip in your browser and going to the unlock section.
then telnet over and enter the unlock code save and reboot.

I configured the USB Pen Drive on another computer and set up the Network Settings.

However I am still getting some errors. I think my NIC is not compatible. I have no option to disable the NIC in the BIOS and I only have one PCI slot where my Adaptec 2610SA Controller card is sitting so I have no way to add another NIC, even if I did I can not disable my onboard NIC, therefore it would always take precedence.

Here are the errors I see

Code:

ieee1394: sbp2: Driver forced to serialize I/O (serialize_io=1)

Busybox v1.01 2007.03 15-22:03+0000 multi call binary

grep -ihHnqvs PATTERN [Files...]

detecting network device ( none found ) --> FAIL

There is a option to change the nic used, i.e. first or last. although here it won't help.

I remember having a USB to Ethernet adaptor, only 10/100, I think using the Realtek chipset. I will try to use this and let you know. I will configure it to use the last NIC.

I tried the USB Ethernet adaptor, but no luck. I can see activity on the interface however NasLite does not see it, even if I set it to the last interface card. I have some PCI-E 1X/8x/16X slots, does anybody know any compatible NIC's for these interfaces?

Any other ideas on how I can move forward with this?

This may not be an answer you're looking for, but if your hardware is not compatible, then there isn't much any one of us here can do to help you. Have you looked at the hardware reference before throwing a server together? For one, i've never had a ps2 keyboard not work wth naslite. And i've ran naslite on a whole bunch of servers. I haven't a clue what's up with the board you are trying to run it on, but that is just not right.
