Much appreciate any comments, as really would like the NASbox to start up headless and without having to press F1 before anything happens.

Cheers

Set your option in BIOS to ignore keyboard errors (something like "All but keyboard").

Cheers,
I looked for such an option last night, but could not seem to find it..?

I'll check the exact BIOS listings, but from what I remember I have one screen basically listing the hdd's,
the next is where to boot from, and the rest are IRQ and memory bits and bobs.

I was looking for 'stop at errors' and was going to set it to 'apart from keyboard' but did not find it...
any ideas as to what else it maybe called? or where it may be hiding? :?

Thanks for any thoughts

In the Award BIOS on my kids machine, on the first page with the drives and time settings there is a "Halt" setting which I would set to "All, but keyboard". It can be set to "No Errors" but that might be a *bit* extreme....

If you happen to have an old keyboard lying around, you could make a "dummy keyboard"
open it up and remove the little circuit board with the cable
put everything in a little plastic bag with the connector hanging out

if you connect this, the mobo thinks a keyboard is present

these things can be bought though
just google for keyboard dummy
it's something like this

Thank you very much for your comments, I'll have another sort through the bios..... fingers crossed.

If unsucessfull I'll look out for an old keyboard on ebay or such like, and take that apart :)
I only have the one keyboard that fits my nasbox, don't fancy taking that apart just incase I may need it again ;-)

Thanks once again
:)

lets us know your bios model or your moderboard model . then can exactly tell where you find the option. anyway you can try your motherboard manual if you have. gud luck .

Hiya titos97,

At the top of the BIOS screen I have:
AMIBIOS SIMPLE SETUP UTILITY 1.19
I don't know if that is any help?

I've had another look throught the set up pages and it's not very obvious to me, so any pointers much appreciated.
Many thanks

:)

After googling AMIBIOS SIMPLE SETUP 1.19 I had a look through the online manual for a generic manufacturer (not knowing your specific equipment but this is likely to be similar/same to your BIOS features.)

(nb. This listed HIFLEX SIMPLE as opposed to SIMPLE).

I did not find ANY reference to ignoring keyboard errors so perhaps, like your similar BIOS, this is not catered for.

I also reviewed a manual for a latter version AMIBIOS SIMPLE SETUP ver 1.24a. Again, this did not feature any reference to disabling keyboard error monitoring.

Looks like this BIOS family does not support disabling keyboard monitoring.

Solution 1: As suggested, attach a keyboard or dummy keyboard.

Remembered this post while perusing for something else ... may be this will help DeafCat or someone else here:

http://www.ipcop.org/index.php?name=FAQ&id_cat=5#q49

Quote:
All Compaq 386 and 486 based machines have the ability to run without a keyboard attached.
and
Quote:
For those that do not have this option, NO_F1.COM is a DOS based program that is run one time which sets a bit in CMOS that instructs the BIOS not to wait for a keystroke after displaying the "Press [F1] to continue" message.

Be sure to first check your BIOS type/mfg is compatible with the program. Use their instructions (click on "this zipped archive"). But a ***WARNING*** to noobs ... I have not tried this ... and messing with CMOS with such programs could permanently disable your motherboard. So ... ***BE CAREFUL*** and YMMV and you are on your own ... (sorry ... need to make that fair warning).

(The safest way is still to attach a dummy kbd.)

:) Georg
