a mate wants to use Naslite on a home network that does not have internet access - he has internet access on a seperate network

are we right in thinking that to get the Naslite system up and running - Unlock Key - he would have to have the Naslite server on the internet to get this - but once it was up and running is it ok to put it back onto the other network

Naslite itself doesn't need to be in the internet. A client tho should be.

Internet access is needed to only unlock. You do that through a browser on a client where you can access the nas on say 192.168.x.x network and then the internet. Naslite itself does not need to be on the internet.

If you get the two numbers from the unlock status page, you can get an unlock code manually by going to http://www.serverelements.com/unlock/ and manually type those in from anywhere. So, no, your nas does not have to be on the internet.
