OK, I'm using a Mac to try to access my NASLite-2 HDD box. So far, I must've re-installed NASLite 15 different times yesterday due to various problems, most of which were
related due to my inexperience with using this software (I'm pretty familiar with FreeNAS).

I've got NASLite set up - everything is good to go, during boot-up, all options are "DONE" in green, System ID, License, Unlock Code, etc..
but I can't HTTP the system - My hard drives are set up according to the documentation also (exported, RW, etc.).

I also can't access the NASLite box through the Finder: (Apple Menu > Go > Connect To Server).

I basically took the network Settings from my Mac:

IP: 172.16.1.33
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Router: 172.16.0.1

And used this for the NASLite Box:
IP: 172.16.1.34
Netmask: 255.255.0.0
Gateway: 172.16.0.1

Please help! So far this has been a big PITA.

In a seperate issue, one of my HDDs capacity is being misread. It's a Samsung 160GB IDE drive running off a PCI controller card & NASLite sees it only as a 32GB drive. The drive on the other controller channel, a Maxtor 120GB, is being read correctly.

What in the hell are you talking about you frickin jackass? You post three times in the same day and almost the same hour and expect that there is a forum admin just frothing at the mouth to be able to answer you questions at the drop of a hat. Your issues are all related to a lack of hardware knowledge and likely poor configuration of said hardware.

First off, pull your head out of your ass and do a forum search for mac access problems, it is a known issue with the Mac and NOT NL! There is a work around that is detailed in the forums for those hindered by having a Mac.

Second, I don't know what the configuration of your machine is and so it is not easy for myself or other USERS to give you suggestions on a possible solution. Try including some detailed hardware info as well as what you have tried before shooting your mouth off.

By the way, I don't work for Server Elements I am just a user with a bit more experience than most here. Your attitude from the start puts you on my ignore list. Don't be a dick and there are allot of persons that are more than willing to help if you can show a bit of patience. On the other hand, continue to be a dick and Tony and Ralph can consider your purchase a "DICK" tax and you can go back to the poor performance of freeNAS.

Hello Vladimir,

The first thing that comes to mind is that perhaps you did not take a moment and review the manual prior to installation and setup. If you would have done that, I'm sure that a single install would have been sufficient.

To access NASLite-2 using a MAC, you can use the native AFP export which has to be enabled in the admin menu. Accessing NASLite-2 CIFS shares via a MAC requires a tweak in OS X, however if accessing with a MAC, AFP is your best bet.

The 160G drive is likely jumpered to appear as 32G so I'd check that first.

Other than that, you should have no problems.

Tony, Thanks for your reply.

I did read the majority of the manual, especially the "Initial NASLite-2 HDD Setup" & "Initial NASLite-2 HDD Configuration", along with "Remote Administration",
"Network Configuration Menu", "Service Configuration Menu", "Storage Configuration Menu".

I believe that AFP is enabled, since when my NASLite box boots, it has all the protocols in green (Telnet, HTTP, etc. - including AFP. Only RSYNC is yellow). Is there
another setting I need to change somewhere for AFP? I haven't tried accessing my NASLite box via SMB/CIFS, since I think AFP would be easier (faster?).

As far as the 160GB drive, I'll check the jumper settings again.

If AFP is enabled, then all protocols will be announced using MDNS (rendezvous) for the benefit of OS X machines on your network. There are no other settings that you'll need to consider on the NASLite-2 end. If you are not seeing the broadcasts in your finder, then the problem is likely network misconfiguration or faulty network hardware.

The thing I that I find confusing is that your description indicates the machine is unlocked . That is normally done via the Status Screens using a remote machine. If so then the NAS is accessible on the network and should be visible in the Finder.

Can you access the NAS using "http://172.16.1.34" from any computer on your network?
