Hi,
Can anybody tell me what a very cheap SATA card is that works great with NASlite 2.0.6? I like to connect at least 2 more sata drives, no raid required.
Thanks.

Be more concerned about the chip used on the card and less about the maker. Most of the cards based on the Silicon Image chips seem to work just fine. If it were me I would look at the hardware reference here first. http://www.serverelements.com/file.php?dl=NASLite-2-Reference.pdf . The second option is to simply get a cheap card from a local computer shop and see if it works. If it doesn't then return and try another.

Ebay is a great source for parts and it is a good chance that most of the NL boxes out there have at least some parts sourced there in the name of cheapness.

OK,
So any card with a certain chip that is compatible will work? (It contains a "Silicon Image Sil3114" that is in the hardware reference"

Yep, it should work for you. Be sure and post back if it does so the hardware reference can be updated.

I found an even cheaper one so I took the risk.
And you are right it works. It is a sweex pu-103 / cn-033 It has the silicon image sil 3512 chip set and has two SATA 150MB ports.
Here in the Netherlands it is almost the cheapest card you could buy..

I still have the dropping transfer problem though.......

Look the the configuration of your hardware my man. Make sure that all the extra stuff on the motherboard is turned off in the BIOS. Also try moving cards around in the PCI slots. You might also try a different NIC and see if that helps.

Yhea OK,
I disabled all the stuff i do not use in the BIOS. I removed all unused PCI cards. I only have an Intel pro 1000 NIC and a sata controller put in to the pci slots. Even onboard audio, game, firewire and NIC are disabled. No IRQ conflicts. They are manually set to unique numbers. Only thing in BIOS that is active is van control and hard drive spin down after 30 minutes of idle. Cables to the drives are all pretty new. When i was building in my new SATA card and two more drives i did some testing. Moved the Intel NIC around, connected the nas straight to my Mac Pro with a cat 6 cable of 3 feet, disabled usb in the BIOS........

Yhea... Still the same 6 sec's 40MB/sec than 2 sec's 0MB sec. etc etc etc.

Here is my log. If you can make some of it. Let me know.
