So I've burnt the image on to a Kingston USB flash stick.
Booted from it then the splash screen says
"Detecting Configuration Device ( unavailable ) Fail"
What does this error mean?

The PC has a SATA disk in it and another USB flash stick in it
AMD X2 with nvidia chipsets.

I though I would try NASLite, but I'm not having a good experience so far.
Cheers in advance

Go to the basics for starters. Remove the second USB stick, why would you need it anyway? Go into the BIOS and turn off everything not needed, IE printer ports, serial ports, floppy etc. Make sure that the first boot device is set to USB.

Give that a try and see where that gets you.

Hi Mike,
I've removed all the wildcard drives and devices.

I've had to Flash the USB Disk in a second PC (from the CD). When I boot the NASLite it does not seam to detect the USB device it is installed upon with this error Detecting Configuration Device ( unavailable ) Fail.
You see when I tried to burn the Flash on the PC I'm going to use on, it could not detect the USB stick (Kingston), this is why I suspect that the NASLite kernel does not support the USB controler. My mother board is http://www.ciao.co.uk/ASUS_M2N4_SLI__6540129

The idea was that I would use my games machine with an extra set of raid disks to back up machines else where on the 1000T network.
I've now installed the latest ubuntu server on a spare flash stick with webmin, samba and rsync.

Cheers
Colin

Yah, latest, greatest hardware doesn't seem to be as well supported. Then again it isn't needed to get great performance. Try it on an older platform, Like an old PII or PIII and it should work just fine for your needs. What you plan might be fraught with risks if you format the wrong drive/s.
