Building a NAS, I am using a VIA MB, Flash memory card for the OS and an array of 4 (for now) 1TB WDigital HD's. For now I am using the on board Sata II connections to control ant the HD's and the LG DVD-ROM drive that I am using to do the initial installation. As a test. I put in a MSFT XP disk and it started to boot, until it (as expected) ran out of space on the flash drive. I have gone into the BIOS and have defined the LG DVD drive as the boot drive and nothing. I should note that all the other drives are recognized in the BIOS as well. I have tried removing all the WD drives and just leaving the DVD and flash drive and still noting.

1 x VIA EPIA SN10000EG Mini-ITX Mainboard
1 x DDR2 667 RAM 2GB
1 x Emphase 40-pin Industrial Flash Disk Module 4GB - 4000X
4 x WD 1 TB HD's (all the same type)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Chris Jones

Is the CD completely failing to boot or is the installer failing to mount the CD once it boots?

Excuse me if I show my ignorance, but I am not sure. The CD starts to spin for a second and then it stops. So I would say failing to mount. I never see anything on the screen with a NASlite,etc...

Thank You

OK, NOW I see what your talking out. Yes, I cannot mount the cd-rom. Until I started messing with the bios, I couldn't even get to this point.

Will do a seach

My search tells me that you cannot do a system install with a Sata DVD drive??? Is that the case? IS there a work around? My problem is that my IDE drive slot is being taken by my flash drive. I REALLY don't want to install the OS on one of the array drives.

Anyone out there able to use a SATA DVD drive? Can one use a UBS DVD drive?

Thanks
