Hi there :)
I'm a noob with Naslite and my first step is my first pb.
Before buying it I asked for SATA compatibility and a reply said yes.
But :
when I try to install NasLite with USB on a Dell 105T, only SATA bus, the CD is booting and then I've this message :

[Done] - Filesystem configuration is complete
[Fail] - unable to mount CDRom

So I can't install... :(

Any suggestion ?

Thx

NASLite does have SATA storage capabilities per the Hardware Guide: http://www.serverelements.com/file.php? ... erence.pdf however installation requires an IDE CD-ROM. Often in the BIOS you can set a SATA channel to legacy, which in turn will allow you to install. Alternately, you can install the OS on a SATA HD on a different machine and then move it to the final destination to boot from SATA.

Hope that helps.

There is no possibility on this server to use IDE (no bus), neither in bios for SATA drives.
And if I've choose the USB version, it's to install NL on USB to have the all HDs for a Raid1 area.
I don't want to install it on HD, this is the first point.
And as the response from the NL crew to my mail was "it's ok"...
When I try to install any linux distro, it works, Ubuntu is ok for example.
Any other idea ?

Thx ;)

Blek,

Are we discussing NASLite-2 HDD or NASLite-2 USB here? There is an email from a user with HDD that is trying to boot SATA CD-ROM. THis is the USB forum, so I assume the two are not related. Please confirm.

Install your usb key with NASLite-2 USB on another machine with a IDE cdrom drive.

Then use that usb key on your sata only machine.

We're discussing about NASLite-2 USB Tony, it's the good one :)
But my pb seems to be the same, booting with SATA CD-Rom doesn't work. System load but when done can't see the CD anymore.
Thx Ralph for the idea, doesn't work.
The other Pc see the USB key when loading, but when NL2 try to mount it, message is "Failed" and then NL2 stop.
I tried with 3 different keys, on every USB port.
:?

EDIT : I took a look at the topic in NL2-HDD topic, it seems tobe right the same. But (always a "but" :)), the bios of this dell server (poweredge 105T) is very light and doesn't offer the possibility of turning SATA to IDE.

Still searching an idea... Image

EDIT 2 : A friend came with a pc that we could use to perform the installation of NL2-USB on the key (victory !)
Here is the new pb :
The server give these msgs :
- Ok, booting the kernel
- PCI : cannot allocate ressources region 4 of device 00:01.1
- PCI : cannot allocate ressources region 5 of device 00:01.1
Then :
- Checking ressources => Busy
- Checking ressources => Done
- Detecting configuration devices (unavailable) => Failed
then it stop

Is it a progress ? ;)
