While I know about the NFS export function, I was hoping that someone had run across a simple method of tieing multiple shares into one virtual drive.

We're using a media player which handles multiple shares well through the "SHARE" directories.....but that box is simply too buggy for use for many files. So we're left with an old tired Win2K Thinkpad and a lot of effort to "string the pieces together".

Would be wonderful if we could just mount 6ea boxes X 4ea shares as a single drive.......

There is a software RAID package that is for Linux that may allow you to do just that, it is by IBM of all the people and it is very capable from what I have seen from my limited play with it a long while back. Are you looking to RAID0 the drives together or just JBOD them?

We're just using JBOD.

Mike, I guess this problem solved itself as our replacement media player picks up all drives automatically. Would still find virtualNASmapping software to be useful for other applications tho....

The software I am going to be using is the EVMS package. http://evms.sourceforge.net/ It should allow me to use my fibre channel arrays and make them available to the rest of the network. Since the only cheap way to make a RAID system using FC-AL hardware is using software raid it's my only choice. I don't see 14-36GB and 14-18GB disks being exported by NL as being much use.

It will allow me to combine all the drives into a couple of volumes and control access to them as well, not that that is an issue.

I thinks EVMS would do the job but you would need a second machine to handle it.
