Hi,

I'm almost sure that this is not an NL problem but maybe your ideas will help. I have a NL2 server and 3 XP SP2 computers on a gigabyte LAN + 1 XP SP2 laptop on WiFi 54.

All 4 "cabled" computers are connected to a D-Link gigabyte switch (DGS-1005D) which in turn is connected to the "NeufBox" which is an ADSL modem / router (10/100). The "NeufBox" is the DHCP server. I also have a LAN laser printer and a IP camera connected to the "NeufBox" all in 100MHz and a laptop connected to it via WiFi 54MHz.

At night all XP computers and the printer are turned off; just the NL server and the IP camera are left on.

Some mornings, when I boot all XP computers, they cannot see the NL server on the LAN. I can access the NL server (it is not "headless") and login etc using its own keyboard. I cannot connect to the mapped drives of the NL server via the XP computers. I have to reboot the NL server in order things to work.

Any ideas what is happening and where to look for clues?

TIA and regards.

Sounds like the computer goes to some kind of sleep modus. Checked the bios?

Though so also but the "status" writes to disk every 1 min, so no sleep mode possible. And when I accessed it with the keyboard, NL was awake but the others still couldn't see it on the LAN.

Regards.

Have you tried pinging any of the other computers on the network?

Since NL is not the master browser any more this could be the issue you're having with this. I don't know what solution there is but to leave one of the windows machines running. Try this and see if the problem is resolved. Make sure the computer doesn't go into sleep mode.

Hi Mike,

What is "Master Browser"? That is the first time I hear this term.

.../...

OK, I found the definition:

master browser: On Windows networks, the master browser is the computer that keeps a list of all the computers, shares and printers that are available in Network Neighborhood or My Network Places.

I don't see how this can affect the fact that the NL server can not be seen on the LAN. There should be a way for new computers to see the computers on a LAN. If not, how could you turn on LAN computers when all the LAN is turned off ?

I'm a bit lost.

Regards.

No but nice idea. I'll try it next time I have the same problem.
