NASLite Network Attached Storage

When I try to install NASLite-2HDD the initialization screens runs and displays DONE for filesystem, CD-ROM, and Target. When prompted to press ENTER the installer does not start. This is an old COMPAQ Presario 2100 model 2176RS. I attached a PS/2 keyboard and the same result. Everything on the machine from keyboard to the CD drive. This is the machine I plan on using for a workgroup server with USB attached drives.

Older Compaq hardware sucks for the most part, you may have to try a different machine. The fact that it is a laptop makes it even less likely that you will get it to work. Heat may also be an issue and performance will suffer to a great degree with USB drives. You should be able to put a NAS box together for less than $125.00 US and that is with a 500GB drive.

I agree with the hardware issue. Actually I was just testing the installation before I went "live" and have since put together a server with a 60GB IDE drive and a 500GB SATA. At a later point I was thinking of attaching my WD250GB USB drive but it's not even on par with a 5400RPM laptop drive for speed.
