I am new to Naslite, so please excuse me if I am asking something already answered!

I am trying to install Naslite2-HDD onto an old Compaq PC with 2 x SATAII 500GB drives on a SIL3112 PCI card.

The install hangs just after the following messages-
PCI: Found IRQ9 for device 02:08.0
PCI: Sharing IRQ9 with 02:0a.1
ata1: SATA max UDMA/100 .... 0xD8802000 irq9
ata2: SATA max UDMA/100 .... 0xD8802008 irq9

I have seen the posts on trying to sort out IRQ's, shut off USB and any other unnecessary items in the BIOS, moved the card to different PCI slots and yet I still get the same error.

I have also updated the controller BIOS to the latest v4284 and that makes no difference.

It seems as if the conflict is between the two cards, but they cannot be on different IRQ's as they are on the same controller.

The only other thought I have had is whether the SATA300 drives don't work with the SATA150 controller, but I can see them on boot correctly identified.

Can anyone offer some advice?

Have you enabled a RAID mode on the controller? As NASLite is only compatible with hardware RAID cards (not driver-assisted or software RAID cards or onboard RAID) that could potentially be causing you an issue.

Thanks for the prompt response.

The card is listed as supported in the hardware reference documentation.

It is a 'fakeraid' card and I was hoping that Naslite would handle the RAID in software. I understood that it was more of a daily copy of one disk to the other rather than a real RAID 1, but this would be useful to me.

I haven't got as far as trying to set up a RAID as yet- this is just the intial setup from the CD.

Indicates IRQ sharing of the PCI card with another PCI bus device (I think)..... Does the motherboard have 1 or 2 IDE sockets? If two, try disabling one in BIOS if you can to free up an interrupt. If not, try (in the short term) disabling the onboard NIC adapter to free up it's interrupt.

If memory serves that is not a true RAID card in that it doesn't have a processor, memory, and firmware to offload the OS/drivers from the task of RAID.

The drives will only appear as a pair of separate 500GB drives.

Thank you for your comments.

Further to my last post, I have now managed (after many failed attempts) to get the card onto its own IRQ by moving it to another slot and shutting down quite a few unneeded components.

When I try the Naslite-2HDD install, I do not get the shared IRQ message any more but the install still hangs at the same place. The last few lines are-

Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.12
SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00
PCI: Found IRQ9 for device 02:0a.0
ata1: SATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0xD8802080 ctl 0xD880208A bmdma 0xD8802000 irq9
ata2: SATA max UDMA/100 cmd 0xD88020C0 ctl 0xD88020CA bmdma 0xD8802008 irq9
and then just a blinking cursor....

The card has been working OK for 2 years with one SATA drive in a Win2k setup and both the SATA300 drives are recognised correctly at boot time.

I have not enabled the fakeraid on the card, and indeed have only used the base BIOS for the card, rather than the RAID BIOS (I did try the latter but that did not work either!). The hardware reference guide says the card is supported if it is not in a RAID config.

Update

I thought it might be something to do with the fact that these are SATAII drives and downloaded the software fix from Samsung to limit the drives to 150Gbps but unfortunately this didn't work either. I still get the same result in my last post.

Just FYI, SATAII drives drop back to SATAI speed when plugged into the older interface. You can even plug them into a SAS controller and they will work. The drive interface is not the problem.
