Hello Everyone,

i am seriously considering buying NasLite 2 for a 3To Nas System.
My main problem is the size of some of my files : it can reach 10Go for a single file !

I know there are some limitations regarding the file system (ie 4Go for FAT32..)
Is there such limitation in NasLite ?

Thanks for your answer

NASLite uses the ext2 filesystem, which as far as I know has a *much* higher filesize limit than FAT32: Handy link

Good news :)

Next concern is about hardware.
I saw the list of supported hardware, but is there any chance that hardware which is not in the list is supported ?

i will have a Asus P5VD2 with New Celeron E1200 for free :)

tks

The chance that that MB/CPU are not supported are nil and none and nil just walked out the door.

4 things though to keep in mind.

1. Upgrade to Gigabit if you are not there already, with 8 port Gigabit switches going for $50.00 and good used 3Com and Intel Gigabit NICs going for $10.00 to $20.00 depending on the flavor it is a no brainer. For file sizes like you will be moving it is an absolute MUST HAVE.

2. Buy a good 3Com or Intel server class NIC, these usually have on card processing which allows them to move the data into and out of the card with little CPU intervention booting throughput.

3. Make sure that the power supply is a good make and has a wide margin in regards to brown out conditions on the line. This will have a direct effect on your file transfers reliability. It sucks to be moving 50GB of data and have the box go down at 49GB of transfer.

4. Hang the NAS box and switch off of an UPS, your PCs as well. My original NAS box was up for over a year with no reboots and no glitches, it was on an UPS.
