I’ve been working on my first NAS Lite installation for several days now and I’m a bit stuck.

I configured the NAS Lite installation on a old PC, and got it working fine. I then took the CF card and IDE adapter and moved it to the actual server where I want it permanently installed.

The system detects the CF card as the primary master (no other IDE devices), and the BIOS it set to boot from the CF card.

However after reboot, and proper hardware checks, the system comes to a plain black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. It does not boot the NAS OS. Nor does it give the “Operating system not found” message that this server normally gives when no bootable OS if found.

Any ideas?

Check the HDD boot order : set the CF card to first in the list.

Ya it is first on the list, but thanks.

Could this have to do with the unlock code? Does moving it to new hardware disable it?

I had to set the USER HD portion in the BIOS to get consistent boots to the CF card.
meaning that whatever the AUTO settings furnish, change that to USER and type the cylinders, heads, etc in if you have to.
Something about the detection can make it unavailable as a choice.

it has nothing to do with the unlock code, it's not even loading NASLITE to even check the code.

Any progress on this issue?

This may be a DMA issue, my personal HDD box I had to modify the syslinux config to boot with nodma.

Let me know and I'll shut down my NL2 box and get the exact option from the CF card.
