Hello all,

Recently bought NASlite USB based on my brother's recommendation and love it, except for a problem copying large files (DVD movies) TO the NAS (copying FROM NAS works fine). After 60 sec. of the copy process, which is running at 92% NW utilization, the network utilization drops to 0% and the copy fails and I get the error message, "Cannot copy ***.**: The specified network name is no longer available". The NAS is then temporarily unavailable, until I open a NEW window by clicking my mapped network drive icon or shortcut.

Incidentally, this happens from any machine on my (small) home network or my laptop, even if patched into the NAS directly with a crossover cable.

Watching DVD movies or streaming MP3 content does not create any problems.

Here is my config for my NASlite NAS:

ECS Elitegroup PT890T-A motherboard w/integrated 10/100 LAN
1GB RAM
5x Seagate 500gb drives
Dell Adaptec 2610SA RAID card (running RAID 5)

Has anyone else experienced problems like this? Is it a consequence of using the integrated LAN capability of the MB? I did a search of the forums but was unable to discover anything like this.

Can you post the syslog content found in the status pages? Make sure you provide the syslog as it appears a few minutes after a drop or two. I suspect you may be having IRQ problems, but this is just a guess. The syslog will usually provide a clue. ;)

Tony, thanks for the reply. Below is a large part of the syslog, which includes numerous instances of the copy failure. I'm a novice & don't know what to look for. I have tried several times this evening to copy some DVD files to the NAS and have had the same problem 100% of the time.

Tony,

I've switched away from the onboard NIC to a Netgear GA311, and also put a GA-311 in my desktop machine, and have run the connection through a Linksys EG005W 5-port Gigabit switch. I've disabled all unnecessary hardware in the BIOS on the NAS (parallel ports, onboard NIC, etc.) but file copies still crash after 60 sec. of copying. I've attached the syslog below. If it is an IRQ problem, can you educate me on how to resolve it?

Tony,

I've disabled everything in the BIOS and now the copy process is NOT failing after 60 seconds (yippee!). However, throughput (1Gbps connection) bounces around from 3% to about 24%. Any suggestions?
