Just installed NASLite HDD on a disk which creates a very small partition for the OS, how do you utilise the rest of the space on the drive for storage?

The manual states "If a fixed disk is used, it is possible to
configure and use the remaining capacity of the
fixed disk as storage."

No option in initial setup and can not find any info in manual as to how to do this.

Disk will be available for formatting in the admin interface as a standard storage drive.

Thanks for the reply Tony but I have already been there and the option to format is not there! Option 8 which should be format is just a star symbol and unavailable.

Tried a reinstall and before making any changes to the config, admin-storage-option 8 is available. Formatting is done and then upon reboot missing operating sytem is presented (ie: no NASLite).

Before formatting the disk (Maxtor 80 Gb) is shown in storage as disk-0 boot/config device, it is the only drive at present in the unit.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong as following PDF how to but no success!

Tried yet another re-install.
Set & saved IP Address.
Set & saved licensing code.
Set & saved unlock code.
Rebooted & went to the storage option and this what I get!

DISK-0 CONFIGURATION MENU

Disk Model: Maxtor 6Y080L0, SN# Y3J4RB7E, v.YAR41VW0
Interface: IDE, HOST-0, BUS-0, TARGET-0, LUN-0
Status: NOT MOUNTED - BOOT/CONFIG DEVICE

1 - Export Disk-0 [ -- ] (RW, RO, --)
2 - Set Disk-0 Capacity Alarm [ -- ] (75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 99, --)
3 - Set Disk-0 S.M.A.R.T. [ -- ] (ON, --)
4 - Run Disk-0 Extended S.M.A.R.T. Self-Test
5 - Check Disk-0 Filesystem
6 - Check and Repair Disk-0 Filesystem
7 - Apply Journal to Disk-0 Filesystem
* - Format Disk-0
* - Mirror to Disk-0 [ NONE ]

R - Return To Storage Configuration Menu

No option to format. Does the drive require any preparation before installing? Do any of the above fields need need changing?

This is the only drive in the unit, is it possible to use the remaining disk space, if yes how do you set it up!

Couple of things:

1. Do you have an old USB Flash installed that was used to boot the system prior to the HDD install. If so, remove it.

2. Set the drive to RW (Option 1), save and reboot. Check and see the condition again.

If you are not successful with the above, post a copy of your syslog after reboot so we can take a closer look at what the kernel has to say...

Here is what mine looks like. I can do the 8 and it does go to a format mode.

I don't have the Unlock code yet. Because I waiting to get a new small system in the mail. I will use a 320 GB hard drive in it then too. This is a 80 GB drive and I my use that as a 2nd one.

Maybe you do have some USB drive on it.

Code:

No USB flash on this machine. Just turned machine on and setting RW (option 1) is not available again.

Changed HDD to a brand new WD 160 GB and exactly the same! (see below.)

The above appears normal. Format ( Opton 8 ) is available for the 160G so that should be your next step. When format is complete, apply journal ( 7 ), set to RW, make any other adjustments that you may want, save settings and reboot.

You should probably do a reinstall on the 80G and start from there.

Success with install on the WD160 Gb. Tried with the 80 GB Maxtor and failed at the formatting stage, so looks like that was a duffer from the start! (Was only using for testing purposes anyway).

Mant thanks for all your help!
