Switched the server on last night (after being switched off, unplugged, for a week) and cannot "see" it on the network. Nothing at all (physical) has changed in the setup.

Tried re-flashing CF card - no fix;
Changed network cable NAS / switch - no fix;
Checked network information in "Tools" - connected.
Checked throughput - ???bytes in, 0 out.

I am also getting a spurious interrupt when I shutdown the machine - it appears that the 3Ware driver is passing a null pointer to my 8500-12 and the shutdown crashes.

Not really wanting to revert to 2.05 as that version does not recognise the onboard NIC (Marvell 88E1116).

Most likely a hardware issue. I'll strip the machine down and try to regain access before adding the rest of the peripherals. For example, take out the 3ware and try. It is possible that the NIC is bad, but if you are getting interrupt errors, then the problem may well be IRQ related.

Hope that helps...

Thanks Tony,

I reinstalled my Intel 1000/Pro NIC and the server is now seen by the network. On the crashing front, I am wondering if I have a flaky drive in one of the arrays (culprit identified with a degree of confidence) so that array is coming out at the earliest opportunity to be replaced.

First time that I've had real problems - as you said, most likely hardware related. I will revert when I have installed the new drives / removed the old drives and rebuilt.

I've updated the firmware in the 8500-12 and will see if that cures the crash-on-shutdown problem..... The Marvell onboard NIC is now "working" again - I really don't know why it wasn't.
