I want to install NASLite-2 HDD on a Mini-ITX system with a SATA hard drive. It all looks good on the install but on a boot up it just says there saying:

"Uncompressing NASLite Kernel...
Ok, booting the kernel.
PCI: Unable to handle 64-bit address space for"

What could be wrong?

Because this is a new SATA hard drive and I have not install any thing but NASLite-2 HDD on it. I tested it out with FreeNAS. It works!

It is a little hard to set up. But I got it working.

I don't get why NASLite-2 HDD will not run.

I can only guess it don't know the SATA port good.

I seen NASLite v1.x that it was for free. So wanted to test it on this to see if it would work. I could not find a place to download a floppy for free. I looked for about 2 hours and gave up.

Then from a link not even looking for it I found a ISO. Burned it and booted it with a USB CD rom. But NASLite v1 did not see the USB CD rom.

Used a old computer to test it that has a floppy drive on it.

I could made the floopy with that. Booted it in the Mini-ITX system I want to use for NASLite. Used a USB floppy. It said booting with a lot of ........ but the screen would then go blank just after the ..... got to the right of the screen and reset and go over and over like this.

So I tested it on the old system. Put a SATA drive on it and set the BIOS for Legendary and still it would not see the SATA drive. I put a IDE drive on it and it finds that.

But this is a system I don't want to use it on.

I just hope NASLite M2 will work on this Mini-ITX. I have a WD green hard drive on it. Put a Watt meeter on it as it boots I never seen it go over 39 watts. It stayed at about 34 on boot. But at idel the watts stay at about just 26!

I wanted a small low power NASLite system. It's just to bad it will not work in this. Yet I hope. I think NASLite M2 will work in it.

Here is a photo what I love NASLite to work on. It's under a shelf I have over my bed room closet doors. Has ubuntu server running on it now because NASLite get the 64-bit address space error.

I hope the next NASLite M2 one works with it. Here is the photo how I have it set up.

Image

It uses very little power and that's why I like to run NASLite on it. Be very good to use as a nas box. About like running a 25 watt light boulb 24/7.

I have a 120mm fan in it, No room for the hard drive in side it then, so made a mount for the WD green 750GB hard drive on the side. It's working real good.

Hay Ray,

I think that we all get that you want to get NL working on the hardware but keep in mind that there is a chance that it will not work under M2 either as I understand that it is based on the 2.4.xx kernel for right now so don't get your hopes up.

As far as hardware, needs must I guess but, it looks a bit rough to my eye. I would pop for a purpose built case for the MB and drive/s. Some are not much larger than what you have there and also include proper cooling as well as mounting for a DVD/CDROM and one HDD. In addition you also get protection from hitting the HDD which is the most important part there. I will give you a few points for being creative and using a shelve for the grill over the MB though.

Thank you Mikeiver1.

My hopes are up some. Because other Linux I tested out work in this. And at:

http://www.serverelements.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=13024

A little down Tony said:

Quote:
The prototype currently uses 2.6.24 but our intent is to use the latest as made available.

I have Ubuntu server running on it now. It works super and a uname -a command comes back with:

Quote:
Linux green 2.6.24-19-server #1 SMP Sat Jul 12 00:40:01 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

I named it green because it does take low power. you can see it's 2.6.24 what they are at lest doing the NASLite-M2 the next one to come out about at the end of this month.

It's hard not to get my hopes up.

They should buy this board to test it. It's a little more then $70. http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=MB-45GCLFB About $74 right now there with shipping. Can find it with free shipping too at some places. I guess they would have the ram, power, and hard drive to test it with. Because I was thinking of sending them mine to borrow but it don't cost a lot to get one them selfs.

I tested this out on a intel D945GCCR mother board. Just put the hard drive in it from NASLite-2 HDD installing it on the system that it stops at "PCI: Unable to handle 64-bit address space for" But on this system. It said the same only 3 times like this:

PCI: Unable to handle 64-bit address space for
PCI: Unable to handle 64-bit address space for
PCI: Unable to handle 64-bit address space for

But it did not stay there and booted and worked. To bad it just don't work on the Mini-ITX one I have.
