Just got things setup and working and have a couple basic questions.

1) Is there not a way in the UI to manually reboot the server?

2) Does the server not provide SSH access?

3) Having the initial disk setup (Formating, journaling, etc) available in the UI would be a nice touch. As it stands, the command line UI for disk setup is a little clumsy/unintuitive.

4) Is there no option for DHCP for network setup???

5) Having an installation option that allows you to select a CF card to install to would be nice. I had to use the USB-CF adapter workaround to accomplish the same thing, but it would be a nice touch if it were an actual installation option.

6) Is there no way to schedule automatic server shutdowns??? I really want to be able to tell the server to shutdown after the period of time that backups have occurred.

That's all for now.

Chris

1) Yes, Option 7 in the admin menu
2) Yes, no SSH support
3) OK :)
4) Yes, no DHCP support
5) NASLite-2 HDD will handle that
6) No timed automatic shutdown support

Tony,

Thanks for the quick follow-up.

Regarding #1, I was actually referring to the http UI.

As for #2, I'll find a way in  All yur NAS are belong to us!

#4 Is this just to keep the size of the image down?

#6 This is the only one that really bugs me in any sort of meaningful way.
I really don't want to have the system running 24x7. Can this be entered as a feature request for 2.0.x?

Hi Chris,

There is a script on this forum by Georg that shuts down NASLite from a client computer. You just have to set a scheduled task in XP to run the script.

I hope this helps.

That would help if I ran Windows boxes, but I don't. My network at home is all Linux boxen.
If there is a script for Windows users though, I would think then that there must be a demand that would justify supporting the feature natively in NL.
