Hi all..

I am having an error on boot. It happens periodically. Tonight I came home and my machine was off. Not sure why but when I booted back up I got the error "Disk error 80, Drive 9F" after it went through Loading Naslite.01.... and Naslite.02.... then I got the error. Anyone know what this is or why I would get it?

Thanks

Lance

Can you post a copy of your NASLite syslog a couple of minutes after you have received the error?

If someone could tell me how that would be great as anytime I get any errors on boot the machine cannot be accessed. Upon further investigation however I've seen posts on the internet that this error reports when the IDE CD ROM becomes inaccessible. Not sure why it would happen periodically or why it would happen after the boot has already been running but I notice the "...."'s run alot slower when this happens than when it works just fine. So it may not be a NASLite thing it may just be some wierd issue with my MB or CD-ROM.

Also Tony, I've sent in a few emails for support on a problem I've had with copying over large files (>1GB)> When I drag over a directory (usually a ripped DVD) and do say 3 DVD's at once. I get a Path Too Deep error reported and NASLite is basically no longer connected to the network and on reboot it has to check the file system. And at 1.5TB if data that is a long check. This also hapens when 3 people watch a movie at the same time from 3 different PCs. (Not always but sometimes). Any ideas what this would be?

I'll take a wild guess here.

It really sounds like you have a hardware problem. The issue is likely not the CD-ROM drive if you also get the problem when transferring data to the HD. First guess will be a bad cable. If you are experiencing the problem on other drives connected with other cables, then I'd assume the controller is bad. Regardless, I'd take a serious look at the hardware. Bad hardware can corrupt your data so make sure you correct the problem before committing data to your NAS.

Hope that helps...
