Well I've been happy with V1 so I haven't rushed into V2 till today.
I am using a Gigabyte GA7N4005, 512Mb ram, using the onboard NIC (did try a Netgear GA311 what a joke for gigabit speed) with a Athlon XP2400+.
and a old 40GB seagate drive for testing.

I noticed I'm having booting problems 50% fail to boot up, when it is "Checking resources =>" I noticed if the arrow is not moving (doesn't go to ==> to =>) then I will get the following
"Detecting configuration device (Unavailable)" which causes it to shutdown.
Reboot and it will work fine.
Once up and running it seems to be fine, but a restart can cause the same problem.
It seems to boot from the USB key with out a problem (same brand of key I use for the NASLite V1)
I will get a different type NIC based of the Hardware ref so I can use Gigabit, but I'm wondering if this setup is going to keep causing me problems.
I have turned off all serial, onboard sound etc etc in Bios.
Doesn't seem to make a difference if its a cold boot or a reboot.
My sys log is below if any one could help that would be great.
Thx.

Hello Glo8al:

Looks like you've already tried a bunch of the obvious. A few questions or things to consider:

1] You said "... and a old 40GB seagate drive for testing.". Try repeating reboots with the old drive disconnected to eliminate it as a source of the trouble (disconnect cable at the Mobo to eliminate the cable too). Obviously it won't detect any suitable HDDs, but see if all else is normal.
2] Is this the same Mobo as your good V1 system ? And I assume you have physically removed the PCI NIC.
3] You said "... same brand of key ...". Try using the V1 stick -- first as origially configured, since it sounds like you have made other changes compared to the successfully runnig older V1 system (old drive etc) -- see if it works. Then try reinitializing the V1 stick with V2 software and re-run the tests.

:) Georg

Hi Georg
This is a different setup from my V1 setup (its still running till I get this one up and running to replace it)

Will disconnect the drive and try a few times to see how it goes.
This key was running V1 on it via a boot kicker, It was 512Mb so I got a smaller one key to put V1 onto (same brand as this one worked) and this one has been sitting on the shelf since. I will try and get another key and see how it goes.
I have removed the Netgear GA311 Gigabit card and it just didn't work to well at all and noticed it wasn't on the hardware Ref list so I'm getting a Intel NIC soon.

How well does a nForce Mobo work with Linux 2.4.x?
I was going to try and put the USB port down to V1.1 instead of V2 (in BIOS) to see if it is a USB timing issue.
I might try a VIA chipset mobo if the problem continues, but I hope it doesn't come to that.

Thx for the help. (time to get more gray hair working this out)

Think I have found the problem.
I have set in the BIOS the USB standard to 1.1 instead of USB2, and have rebooted at least a 15 times without a error.
Boot speed seems to be the same, writing config is a little slower, but I don't care.
I'm now waiting for my IntelPro1000 to come in to get a bit more transfer speed.

Should I set the PCI IRQs in the BIOS or should I leave it on AUTO would that help anything?

I am seeing a few of these in the system log (below) , have run a smart check, checked (swapped) cable but still get the message, should I be concerned?
Thx

I'm not an expert in this ... Tony or Ralph would know better, but I am not convinced that manual IRQs would help you get back to USB2.0. I personally would keep it at 1.1 (unless you are planning on using external HDDs on USB any time soon).

The Drive errors: do a search on these forums for those specific errors. At least one thread I saw a number of months ago leads to an external link that explains a bunch about occassional occurences of these particular messages. If infrequent (e.g. only during boot) this all seems to be relatively harmless. Since it's an older drive that explains it too. I would NOT trust highly critical data (or data not backed up somewhere else) to this drive. The log after a full SMART test could tell you more, and if that full SMART triggers more similar messages logged in SysLog at the time of the run I'd be very suspicious of the reliability of the drive.

Looks like you're moving closer to getting this V2 running ...

:) Georg

I don't care if it runs USB1.1 or 2, I thought it might clear up
# Mar 22 05:01:38 user.info kernel: NFORCE2-U400R: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later
and clean up these
# Mar 22 05:01:38 user.warn kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [APCM] (IRQs 20 21) *0, disabled.
# Mar 22 05:01:38 user.warn kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [AP3C] (IRQs 20 21) *0, disabled.
# Mar 22 05:01:38 user.warn kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [APCZ] (IRQs 20 21) *0, disabled.
# Mar 22 05:01:38 user.warn kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [APSI] (IRQs 22) *0, disabled.

# Mar 22 05:01:38 user.warn kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LUBB] enabled at IRQ 5
Or the above doesn't matter?
I've got a IntelPro1000 turning up soon, so I hope I can have better speed than the Netgear GA311 gigabit card (it run at 10 base speed).

Well got A brand new IntelPro1000 MT off ebay for $20AU. Install it and it is FAST and after 100Gb of coping to and from, I will be moving my NASLite+ V1 drives into it this week (as I'm now getting problems with it post in V1 forums).
Thx for the help all
