Ralph and I are looking for a show of hands in order to determine if there is interest in a NASLite-2 based DAAP/MDNS iTunes server. Please take a minute to answer our survey question. It has been a long time since we originally mentioned this:

AFAIK Thecus is the only NAS available driveless with iTunes server ability...and they only have te iTunes server in the firmware for ONE model. Makes for a pretty limiting situation. I would think that, with the Apple TV and massively growing iTunes userbase, this feature would solidify NASLite as THE NAS option for Mac users.

I don't know about others, but I'd be willing to pay for it as a module (rather than include it in the standard CD), if that helps offset the cost of development.

I'd be very interested in that capability.

Apple TV will still need storage somewhere ;-)

Very very interested. I haven't been to these forums since I got my 1.x box set up. I recently bought a Roku Soundbridge and was looking to add mt-daapd to the naslite box I have. I came here to see how to do it.

Please make the mt-daapd add-on for naslite. The naslite software is wonderful. Expanding it to include mt-daapd support to act as a iTunes server would make it even better. Something definitley worth upgrading to imo.

How do I become a beta tester? :D

I'm very interested. The only imperfection in my network is that my media center, as of iTunes 7, can no longer stream DAAP, so I lose all my playlists etc. THis functionality in NASLite would be of tremendous benefit to me, and I'd def be willing to pay for a new version to upgrade.

AppleTV has been released last week. For 299USD you can have a simple and easy set-up-box to plugin to your TV.

If NasLite will make the "broadcasting" of videos possible I think it can be really a killer application for all of us that wants to distribute media content around the house with a cost effective and easy to use solution.

I've already voted yes but this possible utilize of NasLite really interest me.

Just my two cents.

veeeeeeery interested.

I use my NASbox for music and videos mostly.

videos are played through a modded xbox and the excellent XBMC (is there any codec this cannot read??) on the TV, music is played by iTunes on the mac, with the library file stored on the NASbox. All users loging into their itunes basically use the same library file, which is fine most of the times but can create problems when adding/deleting songs (library is saved when you exit itunes, ie depending in which order users close their app, library will always mirror last user's music library).

But i'm getting lost here.

so yeah, any solution that makes streaming easier, i am all for it.

I actually use winamp daily for my music listening. I also have Itunes.
its a great idea and would save having to load playlists. I take it that there will be a network/music share in the location for the music source.

Video I stream using videolan. http://www.videolan.org

But I will join the majority of others and say that some way of integrating NASLite2 with iTunes as an add-on module would be great. I can't see myself giving up the NAS file storage for my installs, user backups, etc. off-hand but I would be MORE than grateful to have an add-on for iTunes support / video built-in. Currently my NAS setup is such that I have one hard drive for Music, another for Video and that's the primary purpose it serves as those are the majority of my space occupiers. I store all my media to my NAS and stream it through Media Center to my 360.

Thanks in advance if you do this!

Steven

I think this is a fantastic idea, and would really propel naslite into a whole new customer base. As one user mentioned earlier, this could really open up the mac market for you.

However, as I've said before, there is a mac connectivity issue on gigabit networks (for whatever reason be it naslite or OSX causing the problem) but this really needs to be sorted out. If it means calling Apple and asking for help/sharing code (within legal contraints to protect you!) in order to ensure that the connectivity issues are resolved, then I think this would be amazing.

If Naslite had media streaming, good connectivity compatibility for all the OSes you mention on the main product webpage then I think you would both have one killer app (as mr jobs says) on your hands, and I for one would be a loyal customer, and I'm sure many more mac people would be too.

I am very interested. I came very close to buying the Thecus with the iTunes server before deciding on NASLite. The Thecus reviews were just too hit or miss on the product and the flexibility of NASLite finally won over the "wow, neat!!" factor of the iTunes server.

Ralph & Tony,

Any further thoughts/progress about adding mt-daapd to nas lite? Still very interested to have my naslite box upgraded and hanging out there as a remote itunes share along with the normal naslite capabilities. And if you need a test subject..... I'm here :).

Kind regards,

JL
