Tony and I have been kickin this around for about a month.

We're wondering how many people here use iTunes to manage thier music collection, and if so, would there be any interest in a NASLite product that supports streaming of music to iTunes, basically your NASLite box full of mp3's would appear as a shared music source in iTunes.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I use NASLite to store some MP3 files for my Turtle Beach Audiotron to access, but it sees the all of the files twice! The music can be accessed through the shares Disks and Disk-1 even though it is just a duplicate.

The Audiotron scans all available shares for music.

Any workarounds for this?

Hy,

great would be a plugin for itunes where i could choose "take THAT naslite and put it in a new List" So that the NASLite works without changes.

In principle, YES, but I'm not too sure what the implications of an Itune server really are. I use WMediaPlayer currently to access my nasLite MP3s. Would rather have standard server embellishments like Print Server, given the choice. Good thinking though; thanks for asking! Jeff

I store MP3s on my NAS, but I don't use iTunes, so that feature doesn't really interest me. But I also store lots of video which currently streams to my D-Link DSM-320 via the D-Link media server software running on one of my PCs. If you could add TVersity/Twonkyvision/D-Link media server functionality to NASlite, that would be awesome.

If you can map the NAS (network) drives in Windows, you ought to be able to simply "Add [the music folder on the NAS] to Library" in iTunes (Making sure that the "copy files to library" option is TURNED OFF). Once that's done, they should behave like any other music file. I think iTunes remembers file paths if the "copy files" option is off. This would let them be played or maniupulated like any music file stored locally.

Note that I haven't actually tried it.

Something to help in dealing with 100,000 or so lossless FLAC audio files more efficiently would be helpful! I could care less about iTunes specifically. :D

One important feature would be that I could update the playlists on the nas-daap-itunes-server. From any computer. From itunes.

Instead of todays solution where I have a computer turned on, Running itunes 24/7, And I have to use that as a "master" and keep playlists updated...that is not easy to explain to kids and wife.
My setup is a central NAS with all my mp3's, plenty of old laptop/pc placed around the house for playing music and surfing.
