I'm not very happy with the performance of the Promise Ultra100TX2 controller currently in my Naslite-2 box. The onboard IDE is faster, even though this is an old PIII-550 system...

If I change the card over to a newer one with a Silicon Image Sil0680 chipset, will I need to re-activate the NasLite OS? And anyone know if the Sil0680 is supported in NasLite-2? I currently have V.2.03.

The drive that is connected to the card is a brand new Seagate 320GB 7200RPM w/ 16MB cache, and I only get about 6MB/sec transfer from it. The two drives hooked to the onboard IDE are Western Digital 320GB drives, and I get about 9.5MB/sec from those. What gives?

Transfer speed is what I get over the LAN to any of my other computers. CPU usage on the NAS never goes over about 40%, so I'm pretty sure it's the Promise card.

There is a shiny PDF called The Naslite 2 Hardware Reference Guide that is included on the CD. Perhaps the answer to your question can easily be found by referring to it . :D

I looked it up for you and the PCI0680 Ultra ATA-133 appears to be in there, but it's best if you check for yourself. There are a lot of controllers that use the same chipsets listed in the reference, so you may have to do a bit of research and verify the one you are looking to get uses a chipset that is in the book.

I just did -exactly- this. I was very unhappy with the performance of an Ultra TX2-100 card. It just sucked (I also was using a Seagate 320G)

I switched out to a Sybda Silicon Image 680 card, and itt found it right off the bat and all the data on it seems fine ;)
