Thanks. It looks like 7MB/sec, 9MB/sec at least.
Which is 56Mbps and 72Mbps
to me that seems plenty fast enough. I believe my SageTV is writing/using about 4 to 5 Mbps of network bandwidth when writing movies to the current file server.
So I would assume (correct me if I am wrong) but that means the hard drive cant be using any more than that. And should be more than capable of handling 4 to 5 Mbps writing speed. Thats not even 1 MB/sec.
So I am going to find my newest (old) PC, and use that as my file server. I want to make sure I have ata100 at least supported on the PC motherboard. Then I will turn it lose, and start testing it with SageTV. ANd take a careful look at the first 10 or15 shows it records, and see if there are any hiccups, pauses, etc in the recorded shows.
But it seems to me this should work nicely.
I will be very happy to have a non Microsoft OS running as the file server. AWESOME!!!!
