NASLite Network Attached Storage

Love to see a version of NASLite on the Raspberry Pi due to low cost of the hardware. Just a thought.

It would be nice, but the Raspberry Pi is NIC-limited at only 100MB. It would be very slow to transfer files.

100Mbps is fine for music and even HD video. The real issue then becomes the matter of the storage interface. I think that there are better choices out there that would perform far better and provide much more freedom of choice regarding the storage interface.

I don't think that the pi is such a hot idea myself.

For storage an external USB RAID1 drive enclosure should work... right?

I would see no reason that it would not. But consider that it is not designed to do what you would be asking of it. The USB performance I doubt would be up to the task. It is all academic since the guys will likely never dev and port to the RasPi.

Now that would be more of an option but again, unlikely that the guys are gonna go the RP route. I think that they are more or less in a holding pattern it would seem as I have not heard about any dev releases for some time now. Perhaps Tony or Ralph will perk up and post something.

I suspect that if you are determined to try a RP then you will have to roll your own and make that work.

Has there any update if NASLite will be ported to Raspberry Pi?

I have not heard a thing from them and there is nothing in the DEV section of the forums about it either.

But with the new RP4 and a bit of work you should be able to roll your own if your are interested. Performance should be fairly decent now too with the upgraded hardware of the new RP4.
