Just from a quick look ... your results data seem "bad". The FPS numbers and their corresponding MB/s numbers match in each case. That's quite unexpected. Take another careful look.

Reason why writes are faster is because the disk controller can cache/buffer internally (up to a certain amount) and write later. But on a read there's no caching possible ... you are getting the data as fast as the spinning disk can supply.

All looks good to me and you are right on with the reason that the writes are faster than the reads.

Thanks - I understand the buffered writes scenario, but I deliberately set the overall size of the write so that RAM is more than filled, in an attempt to get true throughput numbers rather than buffer-filling numbers. I am really quite pleased with the write speed to a non-raid HDD.

On the FPS / MB/s results, I set the frame size to 780 x 448 (3 byte pixels) to get exactly 1MB per frame.

ooops ... sorry that explains it ( exactly 1MB frames ) ... it had looked suspicious from a quick glance.

You should get one, I have in the past. Alternately you can watch the forums for word from Tony, Ralph, and others that post here regularly.
