Recently discovered NASLite and I'm very impressed. I setup a P-133 with 2 spare 40GB drives using NASlite-SMB a week ago and it works great. I bought a couple 120GB drives to upgrade the server and now have a simple question that I couldn't answer in searching the forum.

My question - to add the 2 drives I remotely connected to the server via telnet on my WinXP machine. The first drive I setup with bad block checking (the 'C" flag) and it took about 15 hours to complete. I'm into checking the second drive now and wondering is it safe to close the telnet window in WinXP before the drive is completed checking?

Just wondering since I'd like to reboot the WinXP machine and prefer not to wait 15 hours for it to complete.

Thanks for a great product!

Tim

Once you initiate a process, it is ok to close telnet. That's almost a prerequisite when formatting a large drive with "check for bad blocks" option enabled :)

One drawback is that you'll not have any feedback indicating the process is complete - other than the HD LED. Just make sure you remember to reboot once formatting is done to bring the drives online.
