Hi Ralph / Tony

Just a quick question / idea for future versions of naslite

have been monitoring power usage of a naslite server for about 8/9 months now
which has 5 hard drives installed to it,
In this period has used 1288 Kwhrs of electric
Which is better than some other computers running server software
that i have tested by several miles
Would it be possable to make the drives spin down when not in use ?

In the admin, turn off the status update event or set it to something like 8h. That will prevent the probes from hitting the drives for status or do so say only once every 8h. When that is done, go in the BIOS and set the drives to spin down after a period. Also make sure that the machine will come back up on network traffic...

Once that is done, you should have drives that spin down. The drawback is that the status probes will not monitor the drives as they are intended to do, nor will you get up-to-date stats.

Give it a go and see if it suits your needs. This approach is BIOS dependent and may not work in all cases. Generally however, it should do just fine.
