Hi,

I have this old Western Digital 100GB harddrive that I've been using for quite some time now. Mainly in my Windows pc's but once I bought Naslite HDD I've been using it as a NAS drive.

Last week I replaced it with a new drive and stuck it in one of my other pc's. And now it won't do ANYTHING....

BIOS recognizes it ok, but anything I try is useless. Apparently the drive is locked. This thread explains more:

http://forums.storagereview.net/index.p ... opic=17412

My question obviously is..... how did that happen? Does Naslite set some kind of ATA password???

Any help is VERY welcome.

You may have to use a tool from WD to do a low level reformat of the drive. Now quite sure what has happened but that would be my first try.

I tried the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics tool AND the ATAPWD tool but no luck so far. I really don't understand how a password can automagically appear on a hard drive.....

check and make sure that you didn't accidentally set the RO jumper on the drive if it has one. Another tach to try is to boot into a live Linux CD and and format it there to FAT32 or NTFS using the Linux util.

Tried that program, and allthough it is free to download and use, to actually unlock your drive, you have to buy an unlock code.... :?

Download and run DBAN from http://www.dban.org/

Then slave drive into an existing system and format.
