Hello,

I've been using NASLite-2 HDD very successfully for a while now but am suddenly experiencing some problems which I've tracked down to my Epox 8K7A+ motherboard. The board is dying and I'm having difficulty finding a replacement. It seems very few (if any) manufacturers are making boards with 4 ATA ports and I can't even find an 8K7A+ on eBay.

I have about 3 TB of data spread out over 7 PATA drives that I do not want to lose (and I do not want to have to replace the PATA drives w/SATA drives). The drives were NOT setup in any type of RAID array, just 7 individual drives (Disk-0 through Disk-6).

I looked into various PATA RAID cards but they are expensive ($250) and are really overkill for what I need. I do not need RAID at all, I just need a lot of storage.

Can anybody recommend a motherboard that has 4 ATA ports that will work with NASLite-2 HDD? If I have to resort to using a PCI PATA card will this kill the performabnce of the system?

Suggestions welcome.

This should do the trick for you.

Ebay item number 350067936563 It is a 3Ware 7506 card. 8 ports of PATA interfaces and you don't have to use the RAID function on it. It's about $35.00 with the shipping.

I have a 7500-8 and it's a solid performer.

if you haven't got a hold of one yet, i have a spare i got off of ebay for about $50 inc shipping. works fine, i just don't think i really need a spare card (of course now that i say that, i probably will)....

EDIT***

coincidentally, i bought it from the same guy (kaiser) who is selling/sold the one above - it is still sitting in my closet in the box it shipped in.

Just an update: My system is back and running. I ended up buying an ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 open box motherboard from Newegg (for $39) with 1 GB RAM and the slowest (35 watt) Celeron D I could get. The board only supports 4 PATA devices but it has 4 PCI slots which I used for:
- An ancient RageXL video card.
- An Intel Pro NIC.
- A temporary 2 port PATA card. (Which I will replace with the 3Ware PATA RAID card when it arrives from Sandor.)

The board has 2 SATA ports but they are not recognized by NASLite+, maybe when the kernel is updated?

Since I was doing a major upgrade I also took the opportunity to replace the old power supply since it was right up against the power limit. I highly recommend PCPower and Cooling for top notch power supplies.

Thanks All.
